Examples of Typical Gang Crime Trends

It is evident from the list below that gangs commit crimes of both types (minor and major):

  • Auto theft and other types of thefts.
  • Murder
  • Extortion
  • Sale of stolen real estate/properties
  • Sale of drugs
  • Armed robberies and other types of group robberies.
  • Sexual and other assaults.

Vandalism and Graffiti

Graffiti is considered as "Newspaper of the Streets." It is one of those initial signs of a gang when they move in a specific area or a geographic region. Also, it is a sign used by gangs for disrespecting their rival gangs or other gangs. Also, it is a sign of challenging and warning other gangs in that region. If police documents a specific graffiti, gangs either remove it or paint it. However, if law enforcement removes that graffiti, it can save a lot of trouble because other gangs cannot be blamed for disrespecting any specific graffiti.

Note: it should be kept in mind that tagging is mostly an individual act, and taggers are not necessarily linked to gangs.

Online Gang Graffiti – Tabloids of the streets

Youtube, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Myspace are very commonly used by the gangs for their activities. Gangs use their own channels, websites, and hashtags, for sharing their activities with the help of coded messages.

Disorderly Conduct / Flash Mob

The chances of flash mob activities or disorderly conduct are always high regardless of the physical position of the gangs. These activities take place without any prior warning, and gangs do not care much about the place for the clash.

As per AMERICA AFTER 3 PM, experimentation with cigarettes, sex, alcohol, drugs, and juvenile crimes is at a peak from 3 PM to 6 PM.
