DON’T FORGET TERRY

14.g

Keep in mind that Terry v. Ohio (the is a USA case) gives this luxury of limited pat searching without warrants if some specific conditions are fulfilled. The reason behind this regulation is to enhance the security of those officers who are dealing with armed threats. Pat searches are my favorite because of certain reasons, and they are:

  • It offers extra security
  • If used wisely, Terry searches can assist further arrests for other contraband types.
  • Last but not least, it is a great way to communicate a message to the community that law-abiding is mandatory, and any interruption is not acceptable.

I believe that this option (Terry searches) is not used properly in law enforcement agencies. Also, defining roles before deploying and gathering information about high crime locations can be a good idea.

Coaches formulate different techniques and practices to help out the players for away games. Similarly, as an officer, you must plan accordingly when you are supposed to encounter gangsters in their backyard.
