Folk Nation and People Nation

These are two rival gang groups and are very separate.

  • Originated in the 1970s
  • Began in the Illinois State Prison
  • Created as a means of protection
  • Smaller gangs forced to join alliances to maintain protection
  • Gang members that were released used same alliances on the street
  • Folk and People Nation Alliances have influenced gangs all across America, especially through symbolism 


The Differences:


FOLKS: Some Crip sets are members of this group

  • Is an alliance of Chicago based gangs
  • Multiple Sets are Nationwide
  • Represent by using the Six Pointed star (sometimes 8 pointed star), and Pitchforks
  • 6 Points stand for – Love, Life, Loyalty, Wisdom, Knowledge, Understanding
  • They represent using the right side (Hat tip to right or bandanas on the right side)
  • Black Gangster Disciples, Simon City Royals, Maniac Latin Disciples, Insane Gangster Disciples
  • Some Crip sets will affiliate with Folk Nation
  • Flag to the right
  • Numbers associate with Folk - 3 and 6
  • All is One
  • Symbols – Pitchfork, Sword, Devils Horns, Devils Tail, Playboy Bunny w/Ears Bent, Heart
  • COLORS: Black, Blue

PEOPLE: Some Blood sets are members of this group



  • Affiliation of Chicago based gangs against Folk Nation and affiliated with the Black P Stone Nation
  • Identify with a 5 Pointed star
  • Sets Nationwide
  • Gangs include the Latin Kings, Vice Lords, some Blood sets ally with People Nation when in Jail
  • They represent to the left - Flag to the left
  • Number associate with People Nation - 5
  • 5 Principles – Love, Sacrifice, Respect, Honor, Obedience
  • All is Well
  • Symbols – Pyramid, Crescent Moon, Champagne Glass, Sun, Playboy Bunny w/Ears Up, Circle – 360 Degrees, Top Hat, Staff
  • COLORS: Gold, Black, Red
